I said we were in for a treat – all 18 members were left in awe by our visit.
We began with morning tea, including delicious plum cake, a Viennese speciality . This was followed by a video that explained how the Duldig family fled Austria in 1938 and made the long journey to Australia .Just as remarkable was the story of how their possessions were hidden in a basement in France before eventually making their way to Malvern.
I cannot do justice to how amazing this story ,let alone describe the collection of art work and the exquisite sculptures both inside the house and throughout the garden.
And who would have known that the modern foldable umbrella was invented by Slava Duldig ?
You need to see this exhibition for yourself – it is open to the public Tuesday ,Thursday and Sunday afternoons.
Being a sunny winter’s day we were able to enjoy a short stroll through Central Park before finishing the day at Coffee and Soul. Thank you to Liz and Ken for initiating this outing.

It was lovely meeting Eva Duldig today, the daughter of Slawa Duldig who was our art teacher at St. Catherine’s school in the 1950’s. It brought back many memories particularly Eva’s portrait of Miss Mary Davis the headmistress. It was a wonderful exhibition of the history and artwork of this talented family .
