Nature has provided the source but it’s the artistry of the photographer that is the true joy.

Helen’s Bonsai

Japanese Maple Group Planting, including autumnal bonsai – Amur Maple
Radiata Pine bonsai

Bonsai is the art of growing trees and shrubs in small shallow containers, success with Australian natives is difficult. You need a trained person to trim, prune, shape with wire, where necessary, and trim roots and repot ever few years. As this year was a big growth year repotting has been more frequent. The aim is to give the tree the appearance of an older mature tree. Watering is essential, twice daily in hot weather, if not casualties!

I’m extremely fortunate to have an experienced bonsai artist who keeps my bonsais in good condition. There are many styles, group plantings, upright, slanting, root over rock, cascade, semi cascade to name a few.

Anyone interested I suggest you visit; Bonsai Art Nursery, 236 Old Dandenong Road, Heatherton.

When I was left with many bonsais I took them to that Nursery , a few at a time, to be trimmed and repotted and then found Bonsai Michael, who has regular visits to my trees, in fact without him my bonsais would be unhappy.
