Twenty-eight of us set off at Victoria Harbour, Docklands, at 10.30am on September 8 to cruise part of the Maribyrnong River. Unfortunately, rain was threatening most of the day but thankfully held off. Not long after embarking and the Captain had upped anchors, we were served a delicious morning tea.
We cruised past the docks where the big ships are loaded and unloaded and up past the Flemington Racecourse to Poynton’s Nursery at Essendon. There was some beautiful scenery along the way and some very expensive real estate.
After disembarking we made our way to the nursery and spent an enjoyable hour strolling around it. I’ve never been to this nursery before, and it was a real eye opener: it is huge with a gift shop and café.
We then hopped back on the boat and not long after we were served some very tasty sandwiches for lunch. You could also order a wine or beer if you wished for a small charge.
Upon arriving back to Docklands, we made our way to the train for the trip home. Everyone I spoke to thoroughly enjoyed the day. Thank you to Ingrid for organising this outing.
