Lucky me as I got to attend a special afternoon reception at Government House on the 9th April, along with some 150 other Victorian Presidents. The event was hosted by the Governor of Victoria, Margaret Gardner, to mark Probus Australia’s 50th anniversary. As it was my first visit, I was truly impressed by the surroundings – the beautiful gardens, to the grand dining table, the ornate ceilings and the magnificent chandeliers . A history of 150 years ! We were also treated to a delightful afternoon tea, served in fine china, with the most elegant selection of white bread sandwiches – crusts removed of course.
Another initiative is the Chandon special edition Probus 50th Anniversary release of an exclusive 2019 vintage sparkling wine. So to celebrate at our April meeting we used a bottle as our door prize. This was won by our very special Alice Widdowson who tells me she will be sharing it with her family on Mother’s Day.
