Our last meeting seemed to go very well, people had fun and a good laugh. Our two visitors said as they were leaving, that it was the best meeting they had been to in a very long time.
Jocelyn Besly came up to me after the meeting and said, “You did OK today and you thanked some people that needed thanking, but there are others that need thanking also”. I know Jocelyn was correct because she told me she was.
There is no way I can name all these people in the space allotted, and most would not want me to anyway. We have so many people who help setup the meetings, ensure morning tea goes smoothly, all without recognition.
A good example of people working in the background was the footy quiz of last meeting. Steve McColl was the front man and got peoples attention and the laughs, but the reality is that Steve and Penny work as a team. The question preparation is carefully done together and the process for the day is agreed. Penny is always close to Steve “pulling the strings”, she even made the prizes for the competition, basically without recognition.
We should thank all the numerous Activity Conveners who provide an avenue for members to enjoy an activity they would not normally have access to.
We have Geoff Bakes who has worked tirelessly in the background to bring us very successful trips to Phillip Island, Echuca and Daylesford, and now with John Backholer’s assistance a trip to Anglesea next March. The background work necessary to ensure a successful event is very considerable.
We know who these people are, so I urge you each to just say “thanks” to them when the opportunity arises. Our Club cannot survive without these volunteers.
