For several years now, the MEN’s Group has been playing the sport of Petanque. There are usually around a dozen attendees depending on the week. After the usually very relaxed game, the men retreat to the Beaumaris Concourse for coffee/lunch which has become an enjoyable get-together in itself.
Petanque is related to bocce and lawn bowls The modern form of the game originated in France last century.

UPDATE JANUARY 2025
2024 saw our Petanque Wednesdays enjoyed by our players with guaranteed good-hearted banter across the gender mix.
Our stalwart player Manfred keeps the men on their toes with his very humorous questions and responses to his challenging games.
Our ladies have formed a very strong group of players and have demonstrated the ability to not only play a competitive round of Pétanque but also maintain a healthy and robust discussion within the group.
The friendships that have developed between players and the ease at which friendly banter is shared amongst the groups has continued with this year seeing no winter break being taken with play continuing weather permitting or an early adjournment to our chosen coffee shop in the Concourse at Beaumaris.
Our group is feeling the impact of change, and we have seen a number of our members retire from Pétanque. My hope for 2025 is to see more members join us and find that it is not only the enjoyment of the game but the lasting friendships that are created.
Make 2025 the year to try out Pétanque and the coffee gatherings. You will be very welcome.
