UPDATE March 2025
On Thursday 20 March, six members gathered at the Golf Course to discuss the novel A Town Called Treachery. This is a debut offering from Mitch Jennings, with the main protagonists a jaded journalist and an 11yr old boy. Whilst it encompasses the required murder, it also has overtones of redemption, small town biases and coming of age, along with bullying. We all enjoyed the book – and not one of us guessed Whodunit – surely the best recommendation for a book of this genre!
At our next meeting, on Thursday April 17, we discussed Distant Echo, by well known crime author Val McDermid. As the complete opposite of the previous book, this story focused on the cold case review of a 25-year-old murder in St Andrews, Scotland. The story revolves around a group of four University students, and as the case is re-opened, the novel explores the lingering impact of the crime. Many suspects – and once again – many complexities.
Our next book on Thursday 15 May is Present Tense, by Natalie Conyer.
