President’s Message November 2022

Hello Members.  With this very unusual weather we are having, it doesn’t look like Summer will ever come but I am sure it will.  I hope that all the people who like going to the Spring Racing Carnival will get to wear their finery.  It was lovely to see all the hats and special outfits at our general Meeting last week.  I have only ever been to the Melbourne Cup once and it was in 1970. I went with Peter and a group of friends. I had made a long blue floral dress with a matching bag. No hat but I did wear high heeled shoes. I still can remember the blisters. We stood the whole day and there were thousands of people and we didn’t win any money!
Bagdad Note won the cup. He was a grey thoroughbred from New Zealand. He won by ¾ quarters of a length after surging forward to take the lead with 100 meters left to run.  The prize money then was $77.000  Bagdad Note retired from racing and was a Clerk of the Course and later a Police horse and died in 1992.
Thought for the month:
A horse gallops with his lungs, perseveres with his heart and wins with his character.
