DINING
LUNCHES are often organised at local eateries. These are well attended and have included Flight Deck Bar and Grill at Moorabbin Airport, Arcobar in Heatherton as well as various pubs and clubs
SPECIAL EVENT LUNCHES – the mid year and Christmas lunches are the highlight events of the year. These are slightly more formal and are very popular with our members.
THEATRE & FILM
PLAY
As we are fortunate to have the community-based Beaumaris Theatre in our area, we are able to organise small groups to attend their plays.
A small group attended “Ladies in Black” performance – brilliant!
FILM
We also arrange regular film outings, usually to the Palace theatres in Brighton, followed by a casual meal.
August Report
Yet another great afternoon and evening was enjoyed by the group attending the movie Pride and Prejudice, Looking back in time to when the parents were trying to marry off 5 daughters was a treat. Lots of chat and laughs at dinner afterwards. and with parking, movie and dinner all under the same roof, life was easy. Thanks to all who attended.
We look forward to the next show “The Witches” on Saturday 23rd August at Beaumaris Theatre at 2pm.

Tuesday afternoon at the Movies
18 members turned up to see Song Sung Blue at the newly renovated Village cinema at Southland last Tuesday. What a movie! I think I can confidently say we all loved it. It was based on a true story about a couple who performed as the Neil Diamond tribute band. And what a journey it was – hence a few tears were shed by most of us .
Now for some facts about Tuesday night at Village if you are a member (and it is free) you get half price tickets. And if you go to Betty’s Burgers you can purchase 2 identical burgers and only pay $2 for the second
one !

BARBEQUES
We are fortunate to have an ideal venue in Sandringham for our BBQ get-togethers. Jim & Joan host these events at their apartment complex which has an indoor/outdoor barbeque facility.
These are held twice yearly – at the beginning of daylight savings time and then in Autumn. Food is cooked and provided at a minimal cost to members. BYO drinks.
Spring BBQ at JJ's
On a lovely warm Thursday evening the weather gods smiled on Jim and broke the pattern of wet BBQs with just a couple of drops of rain. Although a few came prepared with umbrellas and even a poncho was seen. Some 40 plus Probus members attended and enjoyed a wonderful spread of barbecued sausages, salads and sweet treats. As always there was plenty of chat and laughter. Ilsa rose to the challenge of trying every one of the sweets. Never a problem. Our President Gary spoke and thanked Jim and Joan for hosting, those who cooked the sausages, onions, made the salads and sweets. A most enjoyable evening and with dishes washed, leftovers distributed and the tables and chairs packed up by the many willing hands, we drifted off home. Thanks again to Jim and Joan for all their efforts.

Loud laughter. Sparkling conversation. Delicious snags and salads – and even more delicious cakes, slices and delicacies. Yep, another fabulous Beaumaris Bay Probus Club event.
Thank you so much to Joan and Jim for hosting another flavoursome evening at their apartment block. We really do appreciate their efforts in providing a very luxurious venue for our sausage sizzles.
Judging by the noise level all those present had a terrific time catching up with people they hadn’t seen since the day before at the Probus meeting! Some of us were treated to a nameless (and dare I say shameless) teller of sausage jokes – luckily I can only remember 2 to pass on to you. How do sausages write poems? With a lot of meat-a-phors!
What do sausages like to read at night? 50 Shades of Grill!
Our thanks as always to Geraldine and all the other generous providers of good things to eat. You would be amazed at the number of sweet tooth members who quickly masticated their way through the sausages and salad to be able to taste test the array of slices and cakes. And of course many thanks to our energetic cooks (Michael, Bill and John) who cooked and plated 96 sausages in record time.

Hey Big Spenders – Op Shop Shopping in the Burbs
With sincere apologies to William Wordsworth …..
I wandered lonely as a cloud
that floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw……
Aisle after aisle, shelf after shelf – of the most amazing bargains!
There’s no doubt about it, Janette came up with the goods (sorry about the pun!) with this little adventure.
Nine intrepid bargain hunters sailed forth on Thursday 16th January and hit four unsuspecting op shops, two in Mordialloc and two in Hampton. You can’t imagine the fun of like-minded shoppers sorting through the shelves and racks and exclaiming to each other at their “finds”. And we really didn’t cause to much disruption to other shoppers in the process.
Each of us managed to snag an item or two that is either going to be worn (Di, Marilyn), carried (Penny), mixed in (Marilyn), given as a present (Janette, Pauline) used as a salad bowl (Beryl, Michele), thrown on the couch (Roberta) or added to the dim dark cupboard where all unwanted/unused, spur of the moment purchases are kept. Sylvia takes the cake for being the most discerning shopper who managed to resist all temptations.
The Truly Scrumptious morning tea provided the energy to continue to leap in and out of our chariots and wet the whistle for more chatting and laughing as the day progressed.
Thank you, Janette, for your organisation of the day and for being so good at negotiating changes to our schedule – a born leader.
P.S. Just to be clear, NONE of the clothing items modelled in Penny’s photos were purchased!
