Our October “walk” will be a visit to “The Archies” at the Geelong Gallery on Monday October 6 where we will view the paintings in the regional tour of the 2025 entries in the Archibald Prize.
The ticket price is $20.00 and to make a booking, Google: “Geelong Gallery – Archibald Prize 2025”.  A range of exhibition dates will be displayed. Please book your tickets for Monday October 6 at 2.00 pm. If you are unable to do this, please contact me, Ken Launder, on (0414) 262 900 and I will book for you.
Travel details: The visit to the Archies is being held during the State’s Seniors’ Festival – all public transport is free for Seniors’ Card holders. Your Seniors Card must be used for all public transport during the Festival. We will catch the 8.59 am train from Mordialloc, 9.01 am Parkdale,
9.03 am Mentone, 9.06 am Cheltenham, 9.08 am Southland or 9.10 am Highett and alight at
Southern Cross at 9.45 am where will take the elevator to the upper level and then walk across the Concourse to the elevators which will take us to the ground level at Spencer Street where we will check the large illuminated Departure Sign which will show which platform the 10.30 am South Geelong train will be departing from. We will meet on this platform at 10.20 am.
After arriving in Geelong at 11.31 am we will have a short walk to the Regional Library (in Little Malop Street) where we will hopefully have an overview of part of Geelong (including Corio Bay and the You Yangs) from the fifth floor (weather permitting). Nearby we can also see a mural depicting the development of Geelong in the “upside-down” Government building which was commissioned by Geelong Council in 1977 and took the artist Harold Freedman three years to complete. We will then walk to La Porchetta in Malop Street to have lunch before walking back to the Gallery in Little Malop Street to view “The Archies” at 2.00 pm. Could you please let Ken know if you would like him to book lunch for you. The times of trains returning to Melbourne are: 3.15 pm, 3.35 pm, 3.55 pm or 4.13 pm.
