If you were in a location on Wednesday 28th January that allowed you to look across Dendy Park Brighton you would have observed a group of men playing Petanque on a true Petanque Piste constructed using stone aggregate. Oh dear, the challenge! Those intrepid players viewed were eight of our club members enjoying the challenges offered when playing on gravel rather than on the grass surface of the oval behind the Beaumaris Library. They were so very fortunate to have the weather gods on their side 28*c compared to 40*c the day prior.
STONES! You have to be kidding me!
Oh come on, it’s a close call but we’re confident John you have won the shot!
There was the strong competitiveness in the players; none were going to be beaten by this beast of a Piste and certainly they were out to knock their competitors out of the game, all under the watchful eye of our own James T.
Our dear friend Manfred, as one should have anticipated, managed to pull the wool over his competitor’s eyes by utilising his skill of deception leaving others to think he was not capable of scoring the shot, only to win the round by placing his boule closest to the cochonnet.
Poor John B resorted to calling on faith to acknowledge Manfred’s repetitive achievements.
Suffice to say a very enjoyable time was had with many a laugh followed by coffee back at the Concourse. YOU ARE ALL WELCOME TO COME ALONG TO OUR NEXT MEET – 10.30 WEDNESDAY 4 FEBRUARY back at the Beaumaris Oval ON GRASS located behind the Beaumaris Library, Reserve Rd.
