Cranbourne Gardens Outing

This was our final adventure for 2025 and would you believe it started with a shower or two but by about 10.30 the sun came out and it was ideal.
20 of us set off around 9am in our designated cars some using the car GPS while others went out and bought a new Melways! It was only a 45 minute drive to see this 363 hectare site offering us the chance to explore heartlands, wetlands, woodlands and of course the award winning garden. Thank you to all our willing drivers.
The Explorer bus was waiting for 8 but 12 of us wanted to up our steps so we headed off on foot – the bus group got a great commentary while the walkers searched for labels and information on boards in designated learning centres.
These gardens are so impressive if you look at the photos you will know what I mean – the colours and the health of the plants especially as you view them along side the red sand gardens. There are around 33 living gardens to see – some of us were especially interested in the Weird garden which consisted of huge rocks . Then there was the Eucalypt walk the Arid garden and the Serpentine Path just to mention a few. So much to see and admire!
Finally there was lunch at the Boon Wurrung Cafe – light meals served with a view of the gardens (if you happened to sit on the right side of the table). Lyndell and I enjoyed our pumpkin and feta quiche along with a lovely side salad.
It was a fun day – thank you to all those members who have supported our day trips this year. We are already planning our program for 2026 starting with a trip to Rippon Lea Estate on Thursday 26th February.
