The last couple of months have been some of the busiest for some time. September saw us
travel to the police museum despite the great difficulty with public transport, it was a great day.
Last week our regular monthly lunch was at the Acobar restaurant attended by thirty three members.
The conveners are doing an incredible job in organising these events and it’s heartening to see the members supporting them in such great numbers.
The grand final has come and gone, with the Brisbane Lions so successful. The football supporters day last month was a huge success with many members dressing in club colours (in fact I think it was our best response in a number of years). Congratulations to Pauline and Geoff our dress-up winners.
The meeting prior to the Melbourne Cup is fast approaching and I urge members to join in the spirit of the day by dressing up. Don’t forget to see Peter if you wish to enter any of the cup sweeps. It has been, that on this day we normally do not have a speaker, but following conversations with some members, it was felt that if we have the time to accommodate a speaker we should do that. The details of the speaker for our October meeting is listed within the newsletter.
Looking at the calendar of events for October we have a very full month. I urge all members to read the notice boards of coming events set up for our meetings by Janette, and advise the convenors if you plan to attend, particularly as numbers are sometimes restricted.
Jim and Joan Tomlinson are hosting yet another BBQ on the 16th of October. Cost will be $5 per head. Please ensure payment is made by next meeting to help with catering costs. We are restricted to fifty members.
With Christmas fast approaching we are taking numbers for the Christmas lunch which is on Thursday 11th of December at the Bridge Hotel. I ask all members to make the effort to attend this great event .
